About Lancemore Mansion Hotel

Our venue for the conference is the beautiful Lancemore Mansion Hotel set within the Werribee Park estate. The Werribee Park Mansion was built in the 1870s by the wealthy Chirnside family who were early pioneers of Australia’s livestock industry. The original 60-room Italianate mansion was designed to rival the grand houses of Europe with its bluestone façades, ornate clock tower and sweeping formal gardens. The estate once employed 55 staff to care for just five family members, a testament to the opulence of the era.

Beyond its splendour, the estate holds a lesser-known but significant chapter in its history. For decades, part of the estate served as St Joseph’s Seminary, home to Catholic students training for the priesthood, with long corridors that once surrounded with prayer and study, now holding the heart of the hotel’s heritage wing with original stained glass windows still preserved in the library. When the seminary eventually closed, this wing lay quiet for three decades before its remarkable rebirth.

In 1973, the estate passed into government hands and after extensive restoration, Werribee Park reopened in 2000 with the historic mansion preserved as a heritage site and museum, while the former seminary wing was transformed into a five-star, 91-room boutique hotel: the Lancemore Mansion Hotel Werribee Park, as it is known today.
